An Overview of Ejaculation Retrograde
For most men, reaching a climax during sexual intercourse and then releasing the ejaculation through the penis in the form of semen is one of the most normal functions of the male anatomic system. However, for some, although an erection can be achieved and a sexual climax reached, ejaculation with little or no semen may occur. This is known as retrograde ejaculation and it occurs when semen enters the bladder instead of emerging through the penis during orgasm. Some refer to this as a “dry orgasm.” Retrograde ejaculation isn’t harmful, but it can cause male infertility and is typically caused by certain medications, health conditions or surgeries that have affected the nerves or muscles that control the opening of the bladder. Treatment is available to cure the problem and for some, restore fertility.
