An Overview of Sperm Disorders

When a man and a woman experience difficulty in becoming pregnant, many times, the woman will endure a myriad of tests in order to get to the root of the problem. However, in many cases, it is the man who is unable to produce the sperm necessary in order to achieve pregnancy. Sperm disorders are more common than one might think and include defects in either the quality or quantity of sperm produced, in addition to the quality of forward movement of the sperm and overall sperm emission. There are many varying forms of sperm defects associated with male infertility but typically age, immunity disorders, cancer treatments, STDs and other lifestyle and/or environmental factors (such as smoking) are the contributors. A man with a sperm disorder can still go on to conceive a baby with his partner, but in most cases, Invitro Fertilization will need to occur.
